Biosketch: Dr. Saroj Kanta Barik is Professor of Ecology at the Department of Botany (Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany)at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong - a Central University of India and a University with Potential for Excellence. He is involved in post graduate teaching and research in ecology and environmental science. His research interests range from basic research in ecology to application of ecological knowledge for sustainable environmental management and economic upliftment of rural poor. He is leading a strong school of ecology at NEHU with 15 researchers working on such diverse ecological issues as biodiversity conservation, resistance and resilience mechanisms of ecosystems, molecular ecology, conservation biology of threatened flora, NRM Policy and livelihood, community forestry, climate change and Carbon sequestration. He contributed substantially to the development of participatory Natural Resource Management system in north-east India during the past two decades. He has successfully completed several research projects sponsored by international and national agencies such as UNESCO, Ford Foundation, IFAD, ICIMOD, Mac Arthur Foundation, CIFOR, and Department of Biotechnology and MoEF (GOI). Dr. Barik has tested alternative models for shifting cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh during his tenure at SFRI, Itanagar. He has published eight books and authored 65 research papers published in reputed national and high impact factor international scientific journals. His works have been cited world-wide. He is a Member of Editorial Board and Reviewer of several reputed international scientific journals. He has authored 20-year State Forestry Action Programme for Arunachal Pradesh, North-East Ecoregion Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, Meghalaya State of Environment, 2005 and Developing Medicinal Plant Sector of Meghalaya, 2007. He is currently Chairman/ Member of several important Committees/Task Forces constituted by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Since April, 2009 he has been working as National Chief Technical Adviser to the Indo-German Natural Resource Management Project, Tripura. He has also been appointed by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India as Adviser to the UNDP project on Livelihood and Biodiversity Conservation in Arunachal Pradesh. His Ph. D. students are placed in important positions at reputed universities and research institutions throughout the country.

Biosketch: Mr.Sarmah is holding the post of General Manager (E) since 2007 and presently posted at SHILLONG as Executive Director, corporate planning, in North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, A Schedule A Public sector undertaking under Ministry of Power, Government of India engaged with hydro and thermal power projects development in seven north-eastern states of India. Further NEEPCO is presently taking steps for development of Renewable energy in a big way .Mr Sarmah has vast experience in Planning , Execution .Testing , commissioning and operation and Maintenance of Hydro Power Stations , Planning and Execution of Gas based thermal Power plants . He is presently engaged in planning of various Thermal and Renewable Energy Projects and heading the transmission wing of the corporation. Mr.Sarmah holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Assam Engineering College of Guwahati University and has completed introductory courses in chartered financial analysis. He holds a "C "certificate of IPMA and a FELLOW of Institute of Engineer. He has attended various training programs in hydro power development. Mr.Sarmah is most interested in water resource development and management, Renewable Energy, project management and energy within the domain of development and environment.

Biosketch: Bibhudutta Sahu is currently working with the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society(NESFAS) in the capacity of the Project Director. NESFAS works towards restoring the pleasure of local food and influencing food systems with the collaboration of indigenous communities.NESFAS is based in Shillong but is expending into the mort eastern states of Nagaland and Manipur. Prior to this, Bibhudutta Sahu had been working in the Church of North India-Synodical Board of Social Services, a faith based organisation from the 2000-2013 since completing his M.A. in Political Science from Mumbai University.. He is currently entrusted with the responsibility of being the Team Leader- cum- Program Facilitator of Resource Center for Social Action in Orissa. This is a new office of the organsiation that would be engaged in state level advocacy on the various issues of Orissa. He has been engaged in Capacity Building Initiatives and Gender Training programs.
Designation: Deputy Superintendent Engineer (Environment)

Biosketch: Mr. Amor Nath Mondal is working with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) as Deputy Superintendent Engineer (Environment). He worked in corporate office, with major job of planning and coordinating with various installations and regulatory authorities, regarding environmental management. His job includes, updating the top management with new technology and procedures in the market for better pollution control. Apart from managerial job, technical job like performance evaluation of oilfield effluent treatment plants (ETP), Environment Impact Assessment Report preparation is also his responsibility. He is also part of ISO certification process, Bioremediation projects, corporate environmental reporting, work place safety etc. Recently he was transferred to Tripura Asset, Agartala and now working on the other side of the table i.e. implementation of corporate policy in the field. Mr. Mondal is Bachelor in Civil Engineering from GEC Jabalpur, M.P. and M-Tech in Environmental Engineering from VRCE, Nagpur. Just after M-Tech he joined India's premier institute National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur as Project Fellow in Solid Waste Management Division. During his short tenure of one year he has prepared a research paper that was accepted in international journal ATMOSPHERIC ENVIRONMENT on 7 May 2004. Before joining ONGC in 2004, he had worked for Environmental Consultancy firm also. He worked in ONGC for 3 years and took an educational leave to complete his MS in Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University with full scholarship. Being a thinker, he likes to initiate, design and establish the projects from scratch. Like that of a research paper in Solid waste management and also during his MS thesis, he was the team leader as well as working hand for setting up the simulated ground water condition in laboratory . This set up is still functioning and a team of PhD students are working under the able guidance of his mentor. An interesting fact is that his Bachelor, M-tech and MS thesis project were all on `Water'. His passion is `water'. He has more plans for water management and is striving to make it a reality.
