Biosketch: Lalbiak Mawia NGENTE, an architect by profession, is the Chairman of L.B.Associates - the premier architecture and construction consultancy firm, based in Aizawl, Mizoram. He had been deeply involved in the housing movement of the country. He was member of the National Task Force on Housing, set up by the Ministry of Rural Development in 1994, as well as member of the National Standing Committee on Housing from 1994-97. In addition, he is Consultant to the Mizoram Synod and the Government of Mizoram in various Departments. As an architect, his main interest lies in sustainable and appropriate building technology, improvement of rural housing and socio-economic conditions of the people. He was the General Secretary of Central Young Mizo Association, a prominent NGO with over 2.5 lakhs members spread all over the north-eastern part of India, where he was actively involved for over a decade till October 1999. Lalbiak qualified with a B. Arch. from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India, has a diploma in Business Administration and obtained his Ph.D. in Sustainable Development in Built Environment. He had authored two books, namely – Handbook of Building Construction and Development alternative, Bamboo in Building Construction. He is currently the Secretary of Mizoram People Forum (MPF), an organisation constituted by a conglomerate of churches and major NGOs to reform politics and elections in the state in order to have transparent, accountable and reliable Government and establish good governance in the state of Mizoram. MPF was responsible for a smooth and peaceful conduct of recent elections in Mizoram, a state surrounded by insurgency and underground infested areas. He is also actively involved in the Climate Change Leaders Program in the North East and the environment movement in the state of Mizoram.
