Purandar Chakravarty

Purandar currently heads Gasification & Carbon Management domain, for Oil & Gas business of Essar. He is involved in the areas on Petcoke and Coal gasification technology, Climate Change, Energy, and Technology space. Previously, Purandar was a ‘Chief Technologist’, at Essar Excellence Centre, Essar Group, where he was leading the effort to look at business relevant Clean Technology assessment and solutions, focussing on Process and technologies for the group companies. Purandar joined Essar from TERI where in a senior management formative roles he was instrumental in setting up 3 centres for the organisation including one overseas at Moscow in the areas; Energy efficiency and management, Renewable and Clean technologies, and Climate-Carbon and environment linkages.

Purandar has a Doctorate in Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. During his 24+ years of professional career, Purandar has been involved in the entire gamut of Climate Change & Carbon Business, Gasification, Clean Tech, Renewable Energy & Fuels, Oil & Gas, and Energy space.

Mr. Chakravarty is a Member of the National Council of Confederation of Indian Industries on ‘Climate Change, Environment and Recycling’, and is a visiting faculty at Shailesh J Mehta School of Management Studies, IIT Mumbai. Purandar has more than 70 publications in international and national journals, conferences, technical reports and books on the areas of Climate Change / Carbon Management, Gasification, Energy including Renewable and Clean energy, technology applications, environment and policy etc.

He is also an advisor to National flagship and Global refining technology forums and has so far received several national and international fellowships and awards including that from University Grants commission, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India.
