LEAD India

LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) India is the India chapter of LEAD International, a unique, ever growing, live national and international network of professionals, also known as Fellows committed to the cause of– “development that is environmentally sustainable, socially equitable and economically viable.” The India network has 200 plus Fellows across India and outside, and 3000 plus globally. Our purpose is to build leaders who become catalyst for change at different levels. And, this we achieve with a two-pronged approach.

LEAD Bullet Develop and nurture a new generation of professionals from diverse sectors to become leaders.

LEAD Bullet Engage LEADers in action to deliver innovative programs framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.

LEAD in India began as a program funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and was incubated by TERI and CREED in the early years. It was subsequently registered as LEAD India in 2000, the result of LEAD Fellows coming together to make the program sustainable even after the funding stopped. We adopted the international mandate to develop leaders of a new generation with values, self awareness, skills, knowledge to support sustainable path. Today, we have expanded the leadership building mandate to facilitate standalone programs for the public, private and non-governmental organizations, youth,  and innovative action-based projects that integrate sustainability into planning and delivery.

LEAD Fellowship, our flagship program, designed to build catalysts for change, has evolved manifold, in content, approach and methodology and currently does not have any core external funding. Mid-career to senior level professionals across sectors, regions and professions are selected to undergo four intensive immersions in a year that focuses on building leadership for sustainable future. For a participant, it means developing greater self-awareness, gaining technical knowledge, and honing one’s leadership skills by the way of experiential learning that touch upon the social and environmental issues within the Urban, Rural, Business sector and Mountain Ecosystem respectively.

We also design and facilitate thematic modules on climate change, eco-system champions, appreciative inquiry, adaptive leadership etc, play advisory role as knowledge partners, and, function as India secretariat to one of our international partners that anchors an international youth leadership forum.
