Ruth Aparna Raju

Ms Ruth has worked as a Trainee Copy writer with an Advertising Agency, CONTAD (Continental Advertising Services) as a teacher in Welland Gouldsmith School, Kolkata; and an NGO, CINI ASHA, urban Unit of the Child in Need Institute working with deprived urban children in Kolkata & capacity building of smaller organizations in Kolkata & districts working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Presently, she is managing her own organization PATH (Peoples Action Towards Humanity) Welfare Society, an NGO working on the issue of sustainable community development by empowering children, youth and women. She looks after the programme, finance and administration of Organization. She also engages in organizing events, liaison with government officials, peoples representatives, funding agencies & individuals, community members and other stakeholders. Her team is working with children and youth in difficult circumstances on the issues of education, health, protection and vocational training, with special focus on child abuse and trafficking and community development in rural areas. PATH works in the districts of Malda & Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. In Malda, they are working on the issue of Arsenic contamination in water and Rain Water harvesting. In Jalpaiguri, they are reaching out to Tribal communities through inputs in school education and vocational training for children and young people.

Ms Ruth is strongly committed to Human Rights issues especially children, women, housing and persons displaced due to development projects, environmental issues like protection and conservation of natural resources through advocacy, campaigning, lobbying and networking. She also contributes to social well-being through civil society organizations. She is associated with two other NGOs in West Bengal-Malda Zilla Womens’ Welfare Society and Asha Sanchar, both as Vice President.
