Aanchal Kapur has set up KRITI with a help of group of young people from diverse backgrounds. As team leader at KRITI, she looks after research, training, documentation and designing of development resources for NGOs, government and international organisations. The team works with a gender perspective on a wide-range of development issues, such as health, education, environment, human rights, micro-credit, violence against women, etc. It offers the KRITI Information Place where people and organisations can access audio-visual and print material on a range of development issues. The team brings out a dossier of newsclips from seven English national dailies that track and analyse media coverage on development processes. They also provide information and media support to people’s initiatives and campaigns and have a film club that screens documentaries. Finally, the team reuses and recycles paper resources and provides this option to other organisations with the purpose of making eco-friendly work environments. The communication material developed by the team includes posters, postcards, bookmarks, booklets, reports and is available on request.
Previously, Aanchal was coordinating an International Labour Office project entitled ‘Training and Information Dissemination on Women Workers’ Rights’ between June-April 1999. Her work involved conducting research and producing an information package on women workers rights in India. She had also been involved in research, training and evaluation of projects on natural resource management, common property resource management, solid waste management, education, and gender and environment. She has also coordinated a study of environmental NGOs working towards the empowerment of women throughout India.
Ms. Kapur has a post-graduate degree in Political Science from JNU and another Master’s in Development Studies from LSE with a specialization in Social policy and planning.
