Col Soumendra Pandey is a serving army officer with 28 years of service. He is currently the Commanding Officer of a National Cadet Corps Girls Battalion at Delhi. He is responsible for leadership training and empowerment of 1600 girl cadets. His battalion organizes Social Service activities and they have adopted slums and villages near respective cadet bases to undertake sustained and sustainable development activities and spread awareness on socially relevant issues like ‘Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao’, digital banking and effective distribution of water resources, for example. In Jammu & Kashmir while commanding his unit, he was responsible for running the Army Goodwill School and he organized a ‘Sadbhavna Tour for Children of Kashmir to Delhi and Agra. His Unit ran medical camps for people living in border areas with no access to medical facilities and he also organized support for war widows. As a Staff Officer at Bareilly he organized an event called “Day of Disabled Soldier’ with the aim of spreading awareness about rehabilitation of the soldiers who had lost limbs in line of duty. As Administrative Commandant of a military station he undertook afforestation drives in coordination with social forestry department. He has also supervised running of ‘Asha’ School for children with disabilities.
Colonel Soumendra Pandey is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He has been an instructor at School of Artillery where he was responsible for training of young and middle level officers of Indian army. He has an MBA degree from Uttarakhand Technical University. Apart from a senior level management course at Army war College he has also done Certificate Courses in Disaster management from College of Military Engineering and National Civil Defence College, Nagpur.
