G.C.S. Negi (Scientist F & Theme Head, Biodiversity Conservation & Ecosystem Services) works with G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development at Kosi-Katarmal, Almora, Uttarakhand state in India. Dr. Negi obtained his Masters degree in Botany and Ph.D. degree in Botany (Forest Ecology) from Kumaun University, Nainital, India. He was awarded Leadership in Environment & Development (LEAD) fellowship and also the Visiting Fellowship by the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore. In his research career of over 25 years he has handled over a dozen externally funded R&D projects and consultancy assignments relating to mountain ecology and environmental conservation. He has over 100 publications to his credit both in the peer reviewed National and International journals, popular articles and book chapters. He has supervised/co-supervised six Ph.D. Theses and a dozen Master’s Theses (including three Master’s thesis of overseas Universities) and also edited a book entitled, “Glimpses of Forestry Research in the Indian Himalayan Region” and “Impacts of Hydro-power Projects in the Himalaya”. He is a life member of fifteen Academic / Professional Societies. Presently he is engaged with biodiversity conservation and forest ecosystem services studies in the Himalayan region
