Jafer Hisham works as Fisheries Officer in the Directorate of Fisheries, Union Territory of Lakshadweep. He is responsible for the technical works in the the office of the Director which includes Formulation of Fisheries development policies, Implementing the Lakshadweep Marine Fishing regulation in the islands., Coordinating Fisheries development projects of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and activities of REEF (Research, Extension and Experimental Fishing) Division. Before joining the Lakshadweep Administration, he was working as Chief Executive Officer, Lakshadweep Marine Research and Conservation Centre, a local NGO involved in community based marine conservation in the islands. Hisham has also worked with Bombay Natural History and LEAD International for community led marine conservation in Lakshadweep.
Hisham is also recipient of Seacology grant and established the first Conservation Education Centre in Lakshadweep, he extensively works with fishermen and schools for community based marine conservation. Hisham is also a PADI Diver and an underwater photographer.
