Dr. Asolekar is the Professor and Head of Environmental Engineering at the Center for Environmental Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He combines his teaching and industrial consultation activities with research projects funded by various national and international agencies.
Dr. Asolekar received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bombay and then continued on to earn his Master’s and Doctoral degrees, both in Environmental Engineering in the United States. In addition, he completed post-doctoral research at the Harvard University. His interests include hazardous waste management, recycling and recovery, waste minimization in the chemical industry, the modeling of global atmospheric chemical dynamics, the disposal and transportation of toxic pollutants into aquatic ecosystems and the use of remote sensing for marine pollution monitoring. He has made conscious efforts for promoting environmental awareness using media, advising industrial workers , schools and colleges, addressing group meetings and arranging field trips.
